Motor Leads

Pumps of Oklahoma manufactures custom motor leads for many major brands of motors including Franklin Electric, Faradyne Motors, Grundfos, Centripro, and Hitachi. The continuous motor leads allow the motor to be installed without making an underwater splice. Because of the harsh nature of many environmental remediation sites, Pumps of Oklahoma makes these continuous motor leads in a variety of chemical and heat resistant materials such as Teflon, CPE/XLPE, HILO, SOOW, and PVC. These motor leads can be manufactured to the specific depth of the well and many are in stock at PumpsOK in 25′ increments.

Teflon twisted motor leads

The construction of this cable exceeds the parameters of UL Standard44 that covers deep well submersible pump cables. The individual primary wires utilize an extruded, heavy wall ETFE or FEP fluoropolymer which meets the requirements of National Electrical Code 310, table 310-13 for type ZW. ZW wire is suitable for use in wet locations, at 90°C. ETFE/FEP insulated cables are extremely rugged with excellent resistance to cut-through and abrasion. ETFE/FEP are chemically inert and have low permeability. They are unaffected by typical acids, bases, solvents and cleaning agents and fuels. ETFE/FEP is flame retardant and non-propagating, and passes IEEE 383 and UL Vertical Tray Flame Test, UL 1581 at 70,000 BTU/HR, and ICEA T29-520 210,000 BTU/HR. ETFE/FEP is rated “non-burning” under ASTM D635. It is rated for 150°C (302°F) conductor operator temperature for continuous use and retains all useful physical properties at temperatures to -100°C (-148°F). ETFE is a radiation resistant dielectric and meets or exceeds all requirements of IEEE 383 and 323. Low surface friction provides easy installation. Due to the physical and electrical characteristics of FEP/ETFE, the cables insulated with these materials stand a very good chance of outliving the life expectancy of the pump to which it is attached.

Teflon jacketed motor lead

The construction of this pump cable exceeds the electrical and physical test parameters of UL standards 83 that covers a deep well submersible pump cable. They come with two or three wires. The individual insulated primary conductors have a .032” insulation wall of Teflon (FEP) which meets the requirements of the NEC article 310-13 for type “ZW” wire suitable for use in wet locations, at 90°C. Teflon is routinely used for control, instrumentation and low voltage power cables in mass transportation systems, critical warning for chemical plants, nuclear facilities and various utility installations. Teflon insulated cables exhibit very high cut through and abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, and continuous service temperatures of 150°C per UL. This cable will perform its function in a very safe manner as long as the installation is done in accordance with the NEC article 500 methods and is used in a Class 1, Division 1, group C & D environment. Due to the physical and electrical characteristics of Teflon, the above noted pump cable stands a very good chance of outliving the life expectancy of the pump to which it is attached.

Hilo twisted motor lead

The Hi-Lo Supreme AWG cables are conductor plus ground twisted submersible pump cables that are insulated with premium thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) materials. They come in various gauges and numbers of wires. Package cable: The Hi-Lo supreme twisted type UL approved cable is furnished in pre-cut lengths with a water-tight Viton plug on one end for direct connection to Franklin 4” and 6” motors. The cable uses stranded copper conductors. Application: This cable is UL approved for use with submersible pumps in water wells and is suitable for hot or cold conditions, from -50 F° to 200 F°, 105 C° dry, 75 C° wet, 60 C° in oil. STPE thermoplastic rubber is inherently resistant to a wide variety of oils, solvents and chemicals.

SOOW motor lead

The AWG conductor plus ground oil, water, and weather resistant (SOOW) motor lead cables come with either a 12 gauge or 8 gauge configuration. The construction of this pump cable exceeds the electrical and physical test parameters of UL standards 83, which covers deep well submersible pump cables. The SOOW cable is a round black jacketed cable rated up to 600 volts. SOOW is approved for indoor or outdoor use at temperatures ranging from -40°C to 90°C in dry or wet locations. The copper conductors, EPDM rubber insulation and CPE jacket are all highly flexible. SOOW cables provide high resistance to both oil and water making them ideal for use in tough environments. Regarding the installation of this cable; SOOW cables are permitted for use as specified by the NEC article 400 methods. They are UL and CSA certified for indoor and outdoor use.

PVC Flat Parallel motor lead

The AWG conductor plus ground PVS flat submersible motor lead pump cable comes in a two or three wire configuration.

Package Cable:

The Flat Parallel Type THW, UL approved cable is furnished in pre-cut lengths with a watertight neoprene plug on one end for direct connection to a Franklin motor. It has a stranded copper conductor and two or three wires with ground.

Application:

For use with submersible pumps in water wells, cable is UL approved for this application. It is manufactured in accordance with the UL83 specifications for 75 C Type THW cable. The cable features stranded copper conductors, bare, with moisture resistant plastic insulation.

Note: Not for use with contaminated water. Please see our remediation motor leads for handling contaminated water.

XLPE/CPE motor lead

The XLPE/CPE motor lead features extruded cross-linked polyethylene material for insulation and extruded CPE jacket material. It is water and oil-resistant and rated for 90° C. The sleeve and jam nut both consist of stainless steel.
